Enjoy the highest world standards of dentistry at FRANKOWSKI-MALO CLINIC GDANSK
Implantology is a branch of dentistry that deals with filling dental gaps with implants, which provide a base for a prosthetic reconstruction.

What is implantation?
The specially prepared surface of the “screw” enables to form a biological connection between the implant and the jaw bone called osseointegration. This process lasts from 2 to 6 months, after which it is possible to load the implants with a prosthetic work. It can be a single crown, a bridge or a denture. New teeth look and behave like natural ones, the patient can eat and talk freely.
The course of the procedure is always planned with respect to the patient’s operating conditions, i.e. the bone thickness and density, the neighborhood of the anatomical structures (nerve wave, position of the maxillary sinus or position of the neighboring teeth).
We divide the implantation process into two stages:
THE SURGICAL PART: implant placement in the jaw bone. The treatment is carried out in sterile conditions in the operating room, under local anesthesia and antibiotics. On request, we can subject the patient to sedation or general anesthesia under the supervision of an anesthesiologist.
THE PROSTHETIC PART: preparation of a prosthetic reconstruction of the missing teeth in form of a crown or bridge after precise impressions have been taken.
The bone-implant integration time depends on where the implant was placed. For the lower jaw it is about 2-3 months, for the upper jaw integration takes 3-6 months. Sometimes some extra procedures are needed to prepare the place for the implant.
This can be lifting the maxillary sinus or bone reconstruction – augmentation. Such procedures prolong the time of ending the treatment.
In the front part of the mouth, cosmetic reasons require immediate restoration on implants. That is why we often place an implant right after the removal of the damaged tooth. In some cases it is necessary to make corrections with orthodontic braces, which ensures durability of the prosthetic work.
In order to properly assess the dental conditions in a given patient, we perform a computed tomography that shows a spatial image of the jaws. Navigation systems help us plan the placement of implants, we can also perform a wax simulation of the prosthetic reconstruction. The shape and scope of work are examined using the so-called facial arch, which helps to establish individual occlusion conditions. These data are used by technicians during the reconstruction in an individually programmed articulator for a given patient.
Thanks to implantological procedures, the patient gains better occlusion conditions as well as a very natural appearance. This modern solution provides a great comfort while eating, a great mood and a beautiful smile for many years.
